Logs, Firewood & Kindling
At Derek Fox & Sons (Timber) Ltd we care about the environment and do what we can to help reduce ours and our customers' carbon footprints. This is why we only sell firewood that has been sourced locally from sustainable forests, mainly owned by the Forestry Commission.
It is very important that wood or logs used for firewood are well seasoned. If not, the firewood won't give out much heat because most of the energy will be used to evaporate the moisture in the wood. Furthermore, badly seasoned firewood will leave a build up of deposits in your chimney, which can reduce the life of your wood burner or multi-fuel stove, flue pipe and chimney.
Firewood is a cheap, carbon neutral renewable energy source, unlike fossil fuels such as coal and oil. We supply mostly seasoned hardwood firewood from our Woodsfold Sawmill site in Withnell near Chorley, although softwood and kindling are also sold at this site on request.
We are probably the biggest supplier of logs in the North West and hold huge stocks of timber, which are dried in rotation so you can be sure you only receive dry seasoned logs and not freshly felled green timber.
Our timber is stored for more than 12 months and then processed into bulk bags and nets for a further period, until point of sale. Our seasoned hardwood is available from both Derek Fox & Son in Longridge, Preston and our Woodsfold Sawmill in Withnell near Chorley.
Over the past five years, we have invested in modern processing machinery to cope with the demand and we also have a modern transport fleet to get our products out on time.
Firewood is mainly sold in bulk bags (0.8m), but we also sell in nets and loose quantities if required.
